It was truly Saturday night fever in Volcano last weekend, as the Armory Hall was transformed into a pulsating disco emporium for the Volcano Theatre Company's annual awards banquet, celebrating its 29th season.
As the disco ball cast it's sparkle around the room, there were sightings of Sonny and Cher (Rolf Hein and Debbie Dunne) and The Village Idiots. With tunes provided by Grand Master Eisenhauer and his disco-mama Tracy, the crowd was barely able to keep up when the lights went down and the beat picked up for the dance contest.
Walking away with more than just a boogie-induced polyester rash, were this years winners in a variety of categories. Winning in the Best Actor and Actress category were Fred Burks and Dana Hein for their performances in The Amorous Ambassador and Academia Nuts, respectively. Supporting Actor and Actress went to Rolf Hein in 'The Butler Did It' and Beth Barnard in 'Exact Center of the Universe.' The Best Production award went to 'Exact Center of the Universe' and was accepted by the directors, Jay Cusker and Beth Barnard and producers, Shirley Alexander and Gloria Chamber. Dana Hein took home a second award, for Costume Design for 'Butler.' Tech Design went to Bob Duzdevich and Dave Bibby, also for 'Butler.' The annual 'Thebaut Award' went to Dave Bibby for his contribution in tech and lighting design.
