Amador Support, Transportation and Resource Services, a local not-for-profit organization providing support, transportation and resource services for cancer patients and their families, will host the fourth annual Camp Out for Cancer on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22 and 23 at the Argonaut High School stadium.
The event, which runs from 9 a.m. on Saturday to 9 a.m. on Sunday, will once again feature entertainment, food and fun for the entire family.
"It is truly amazing to see our community come together each year for this event," said Ginger Rolf, volunteer director for Amador STARS. "Local businesses provide generous sponsorships, neighbors work together to raise money and family and friends collaborate to create the most unique and entertaining team themes and campsites."
Anyone interested in participating or volunteering at the event can call the Amador STARS office at 223-1246. Corporate sponsorships are still available.
Amador STARS raises funds for transportation, support groups and other resource services through fund-raisers such as the Camp Out for Cancer and Bunco for Breast Cancer, as well as contributions from local residents and businesses.
The STARS transportation program includes three cancer vans and 27 volunteer drivers, which transport patients to out-of-town cancer treatments in Sacramento, Stockton and Lodi. Patients are also transported locally to treatments when they need a ride.
Individuals interested in supporting Amador STARS can make a donation at the Amador STARS office at 631 Court St., Jackson, or call 223-1246. Contributions can also be sent to Amador STARS at P.O. Box 208, Jackson, 95642, or made online through a secure form at the STARS Web site, www.amadorstars.org.

Amador STARS was created in 2004 with the mission of raising "local funds for local cancer needs." The volunteer board of directors includes Gretchen Carlson, Nina Machado, Shannon Rolf Banta, Nancy Swensen, Phyllis Swensen, Carol Woolsey and Ginger Rolf. Amador STARS was formed to meet the growing need for cancer services and support in Amador County.
