Three members of the community judged creative pillow shams at The Old General Store in Drytown. The winning entries will be included in a silent auction, with proceeds benefiting Camp Out for Cancer.
The judges, Sheriff Martin Ryan, Nova Wright and Abby Tirapelle, had to judge 33 shams and decide on three winners. All of the shams were made by local youths, sewers from three guilds and individuals who wanted to help. Youth from 4-H Clubs and students in Mr. Maranzes and Mrs. Calestinis' classes designed art for the sewers from the American Sewing Guild, Mother Lode Quilt Guild and Sierra Quilt Guild to design the pillow shams.
First place was captured by Carmen Rohland of The American Sewing Guild. Second place went to Joan Smith of The Sierra Gold Quilt Guild. Third place was awarded to Carolyn Baur of The American Sewing guild.
All of the pillows entered into the contest are now available for silent auction, with all proceeds going to Camp Out for Cancer. In addition to the contest pillows, there are many available for immediate purchase, or to purchase raffle tickets for. The auction will continue through Labor Day weekend at The Old General Store in Drytown.
Campout for Cancer will be at Argonaut High School Sept. 22 through 9 a.m. Sept. 23.
