Kevin Woodard of Clovis makes science come alive for Clovis Unified School District students.
To recognize the enthusiasm and knowledge he brings to the classroom, the California Association Future Farmers of America recently honored Woodard, naming him the Star Agriscience Teacher of the Year for the state of California.
He is the son of Dale and Pat Woodard of Jackson and a graduate of Argonaut High School. He attended Fresno State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in animal science and later went on to earn a Master of Science in agriculture education from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Kevin is currently the department chairman of the McFarlane-Coffman Agriculture Center within Clovis Unified School District where he has been teaching agriscience for 10 years.
In July, the National FFA organization will select four finaIists from state applicants to compete for the title of National FFA Organization Agriscience Teacher of the Year. Each finalist will receive a $1,500 grant to purchase agriscience equipment for their school and a $500 cash award. If among those finalists, Kevin will travel to interview for the honor in Indianapolis, Ind., during the 2008 National FFA Convention, Oct. 22 through 25.
Winning agriscience teachers represent the top in their field, creating innovative programs in food, environmental, animal, plant, soil and mechanical/engineering sciences. They help to ensure that students are able to succeed in today's competitive, technologically advanced world. The National FFA Organization Agriscience Teacher of the Year program is sponsored by Potash Corp as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.
