Playoffs started last Sunday in the Amador County Recreation Agency Men’s Basketball League. The top four teams made the playoffs for a chance to compete for the league championship, while the bottom four teams entered into a consolation bracket.

The first game of the night was the 5th seed, Basket Brawlers, vs. the 8th seed, Code 3 Ballers. The Basket Brawlers barely missed the playoffs, losing three close games by a total of 10 points during the regular season. They started the game off with a big lead and never looked back. The final score was Basket Brawlers 64, Code 3 Ballers, 35. The leading scorers for the Basket Brawlers were Tommy Webb, with 18 points, and Neal Williamson, who had a double-double, with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Code 3 Ballers’ leading scorer was Lukas Kwaka, with 13.

The second game was between 6th seed, The Botto Inn, vs. the 7th seed, SRI Hosting. This is the third time these teams have played, splitting the first two. The Botto Inn won the tie-breaker, 64-49. The leading scorers for The Botto Inn were Chris Phinney, with 25 points, and Tom Baldwin, with 13.

Then the championship bracket opened play, starting off with the 1st-seeded Hammerheads going up against the 4th seed, Matich Vukovich Insurance. Matich Vukovich only had five players, but they stayed with the undefeated Hammerheads the entire game. They had big performances by Daniel Smalley, who finished with 30 points, and Brad Harris, who had 16. That was not enough for the Hammerheads, however, who were lead by Geoff Altringham, with 26 points. The final score wa Hammerheads, 73, Matich Vukovich Insurance, 67. The Hammerheads advance to the championship game and Matich Vukovich will compete for 3rd place on Sunday, May 18, at 6:20 p.m., at Amador High School.

The final game of the night featured the 2nd seed, Davenport Properties, vs. the 3rd seed, Up Country Hardware. These teams played each other earlier in the season and Davenport won by five points. The game remained close the entire way. At halftime, the score was Davenport Properties 23, Up Country Hardware, 22, unusually low scoring for these two teams. The teams picked it up a little in the second half, and Up Country Hardware’s team play allowed them to pull away in the end. The final score was Up Country Hardware, 63, Davenport Properties, 53. Davenport will play for 3rd place and Up Country Hardware will play Hammerheads for the championship at 7:30 p.m., on Sunday, May 18, at Amador High School. All are invited to come and watch the final games, free of charge — and get some great snacks from ACRA’s Snack Shack.

ACRA would like to thank the Jackson Rancheria Casino and Hotel for generously sponsoring the ACRA Men’s Basketball League, again.
