At 266 pounds, Jody Drollinger said her life was depressing, dreary and joyless.

So in January 2014, the 43-year-old set out on a weight loss journey by exercising and cutting out fast food and soda from her diet — and has since shed an impressive 126 pounds!

“This journey has been one of the best accomplishments I have ever achieved — and it’s just getting started!” the Pine Grove, Calif. native said.

What was your life like before the weight loss?

My life was a complete mess. It was depressing, dreary and joyless — not to...

I was out on the DFW stocking website and noticed that they plan to stock New Melones next week. It would be my guess that they will put half in at Glory Hole and the rest at the launch ramp below the Highway 49 Bridge. They never tell you what day, but it would be my guess that if you went out Wednesday or Friday you might have a good chance of fish. I’ll probably hit the launch ramp on Wednesday.

We’re doing the “Design to Sell” thing at our house, so my fishing time is limited, but I try to get out at least once a week so I have...

Before she went off to college to become a California Golden Bear at the University of California, Kobie Pettis was an Argonaut Mustang. Graduating from Argonaut in 2014 she had an amazing career. She led her Argonaut High team to the Mother Lode League (MLL) Championship in 2011 and 2012, the school’s first league championships since 1998. Pettis was named the Most Inspirational Player and All-Second-Team as a junior in 2013 — the MLL most valuable player and Stockton Record’s Player of the Year in 2012.

Not to mention she was also...

Juan at Lake Amador for a day of fishing. Amador Ledger Dispatch photo by Mark Kautz

Here we are at the beginning of a new year. Hopefully the next four or five months will bring us rain and snow so that fishing in 2015 will be much better than 2014.

A couple days before Christmas I met two friends out at Lake Amador for a day of fishing. You know them, Yuki and Juan. As luck would have it, we hit the lake on the same day they planted for that week.

If you get a chance to see this phenomenon, it’s something you won’t forget. Now you say, what’s different between Lake Amador and any other lake being planted? Most of...

I have worked with people with disabilities most of my adult life. I have learned the meaning of words like “courage” and “perseverance” by watching them get up each day and do the best they can to achieve their dreams in the face of major obstacles. They have taught me about the importance of setting goals to make sure you are heading in the direction of your dreams. Early on these folks have Individual Education Plans with goals and objectives to help them focus on what is important to their growth. As adults, many have IPP’s or... [Read more]

I’m back. I took a week off for Christmas, if you will. I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and got all the fishing gear you wanted. Just an FYI, I write these the week before the week of the Friday they appear. Seems like I’m always behind, but that’s the way of the newspaper business.

We’ve had some big storms, got a lot of water, and a good amount of snow (although we need a lot more) in the mountains.

On Thursday, Dec. 18, I was going fishing no matter what. OK, we were between storms and you have to grab fishing time when you...

For the third year in a row, the little tavern in Upcountry Pioneer, Gallagher’s Pub has donated hundreds of toys for Toy’s for Tots. Each year, siblings Colleen and Denny Edwards kick off the drive with a golf tournament in June. Thereafter, until Christmas, they collect toys and cash for the purchase of toys. Week 1 of playoffs proved to be as exciting as anticipated for ACRA’s Men’s Basketball League. One team scored over 100 points, and both the other games were tough fought, close games. The first game of the night was a consolation game between the two number 1 seeds in their respected leagues. The A league team (Neil Carlson, REALTOR) ran away with this one against the B League Team (The Botto Inn). It was close through the first 10 minutes or so but after that it quickly got away from The Botto Inn with the final score being Neil... [Read more]

I had so much fun chasing that “tree stump” and since I found a new pink Kastmaster in one of my backup tackle boxes (I have several), I thought I’d wander out to Lake Camanche North Shore on Friday (that would be Black Friday). Besides, who wants to fight all the mall crowds?

I decided to sleep in (6:00 instead of 5:15) and got out to the lake around 9 a.m. Didn’t see any reason to rush, the fish would be there or they wouldn’t. I picked up right where I left off Monday with one rod out with rainbow Power Bait and a little Pro-Cure...
