For those who like their half marathons with plenty of scenery, and elevation (not to mention some outstanding wine tasting afterwards), be sure to put Sunday July 5 down on your calendar for the 28th annual Hernia Hill Half Marathon at Twisted Oak Winery.

Along with the half marathon, the Hernia Hill event also provides a 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk. In addition, there is the famous Rubber Chicken 5K Relay. Teams of four people will hand off a special rubber chicken, as the baton (that’s 1.25k per runner).

The Hernia Hill Half...

The Botto Inn, led by Geoff Nixon who scored 27 points, defeated ACES to be crowned the ACRA’s Men’s Basketball B League chmpions. Photo courtesy to the Amador Ledger Dispatch

Sunday night at Amador High featured two Men’s League Championship basketball games. The B League Championship Game was, in my opinion, a much better game than the A League Championship. The B League game featured The Botto Inn vs. ACES. The Botto Inn has dominated the B League all season so ACES was looking for the upset.

When the game started, The Botto Inn took an early lead by having their main scorers drive by their defenders semi easily to get lay ups or short shots. It stayed this way the entire first half and The Botto...

The Stockton Heat, proudly owned by the NHL’s Calgary Flames, announce the first signing in team history as Louick Marcotte (Lew-ick Mar-cot), a forward out of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).

Marcotte, 21, is coming off of a terrific season that saw him lead his Gatineau Olympiques team in goals with 36 and points with 76 during the regular season. Amador Ledger Dispatch photo by Eric Winslow

When strong, gifted folks take the time to help those who are differently-abled, few things in life are more beautiful. It’s the same when young, promising members of one of the finest and most academically oriented fraternities in the country spend their summer bicycling across the entire span U.S.A. in order to raise money and, “to spread a message of acceptance and understanding for people with disabilities” as the website for The Ability Experiences’ Journey of Hope puts it. It’s hard not be impressed by such generosity.

Arthur Peacock — then, and now — as he holds more than 50 major titles. Photo courtesy to the Amador Ledger Dispatch

Arthur Peacock, champion bodybuilder and near octogenarian, showed the bodybuilding industry and a spellbound audience what 79-years old looks like at the Contra Costa Bodybuilding Championship May 9.

Peacock, in his first competition in three years, commanded the stage for the pre-judging portion of the Contra Costa event, alongside fellow competitors in their 40s, 50s and 60s. Longtime friend and fellow bodybuilder, Anthony Altamirano, from Reno Nevada, said, “He takes it very seriously; he’s been doing this for over 40...

Growing up on the Mississippi River, I’d say I have done more than my fair share of recreational boating and fishing. Of course, growing up, I never considered the costs involved with the hobby. I was just along for the fun with my parents and grandparents. But, as anyone with a boat will tell you, it can be an expensive hobby.

Few may realize or recognize that we have a flourishing and amazing company in Jackson. Piranha Propellers has been quietly operating off of Scottsville Boulevard in Jackson for the past four years. And to...
