Lynn Porovich recently bowled a perfect 300 at Gold Country Lanes, 81 Ridge Rd., Sutter Creek. “She’s the only woman we have on record at Gold Country Lanes to to bowl a perfect game in a scratch league game,” said John Swift of Gold Country Lanes. “I found an old record book and Porovich holds the previous high scratch game in league with a score of 289, set — amazingly enough — in the 2005/6 season.”

Congratulations to Porovich on her amazing accomplishment. The Amador Ledger Dispatch looks forward to publishing your next...

What is the scope of wildlife officers’ search authority? Photo courtesy to the ALD

Question: Do California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) wardens have the authority to search a sportsperson’s truck, boat, cooler, etc. without a warrant or probable cause? If so, how would an abalone check point (for example) not be a blatant violation of the Fourth Amendment of the constitution? I’m all for stopping poachers, but not at the cost of violating what makes our country so special. Thanks. (John M.)

Answer: In the hunting and fishing context, wildlife officers are authorized to conduct compliance inspections...

We are in danger of losing our history. Newspapers have been published since 1855 under different mastheads. And for years, folks looking to dig into history have ventured to the Amador County Public Library to seek information on microfilm. The problem – microfilm has a life cycle. In fact, one of the machines used to search past publications is one that no longer has parts made for it or can be serviced. Thankfully, a second machine was graciously donated to assist the public. But even with that amazing gift, the microfilm... [Read more]

Assistant Coach Todd Gill using the white board to illustrate to Flames defensemen. Photo courtesy of Rob McMorris

If the name Todd Gill doesn’t sound familiar to you as a California hockey fan, it should. Gill captained the San Jose Sharks for two seasons from 1996-1998 and was one of the pound-for-pound toughest guys in the NHL during his 19-year career.

Originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1984, Gill played 1007 career games in the NHL and amassed 354 points (82 goals, 272 assists) to go along with 1,214 penalty minutes.

He wasn’t the biggest guy in the league, but he feared nobody. At 6’0”, 185 lbs. Gill took on some of the...
