While other fighters entered the cage to recorded rock or rap songs, Gurion, a member of the Ione Band of Miwok, entered the cage accompanied by traditional Native...

The Mother Lode League had four teams represented in the playoffs this year and, as of Wednesday night, only two teams remained. The Summerville Bears gave it all they had, but fell to the West Campus Warriors (Sacramento) by a score of 65-51. Summerville finished the season 15-12 overall and 6-6 in the Mother Lode League. In a big upset, the Mesa Verde Mavericks knocked off the heavily-favored Calaveras Redskins 57-43. Calaveras was expected to make it to the final eight and possibly the final four this year, but the Cinderella... [Read more]

Two on the day this go round and a threat to put Mark Kautz mug on Facebook. Amador Ledger Dispatch photo by Terry from Lake Camanche

Remember, Lake Pardee opens today. It looks like it’s going to be a short season. Their website says they are closing in July, instead of November.

The water level in the lake is not at capacity, but close. Opening days in the past have been good and bad. You’ll just have to roll the dice and see what falls.

Now on to last week, remember we’re always a week behind. I hit Lake Camanche on Wednesday, Feb. 4, because rain was expected the rest of the week.

As I got to check-in, I asked the young man if they had planted....

February is the “love” month when we think of our loved ones and send chocolates, flowers or heart gifts giving them our love or asking for their love in return – saying, “Happy Valentine’s Day” or “Be My Valentine.” What if we turn that around and give ourselves a gift — give a gift of love to “our” heart. Let us be kind to ourself and our heart first because heart disease claims the lives of one in every seven in the United States and is the number one killer of both men and women according to the American Heart Association’s 2015... Rob Leary is the bench coach for the Miami Marlins. Photo by Robert Vigon

Amador County local Bob Leary is the father of Rob Leary, bench coach for the Miami Marlins, formerly the Florida Marlins. Rob Leary began working as the Marlins’ bench coach in November of 2012.

Although Rob Leary did not grow up in Amador County, he can relate to the small town vibe. “To open up the local newspaper and see your name in it was such a thrill,” commented Leary. “It was a big deal to all of our teammates that we played with and against. It was a great community that we grew up in.”

Leary was born in San Francisco,...

At 266 pounds, Jody Drollinger said her life was depressing, dreary and joyless.

So in January 2014, the 43-year-old set out on a weight loss journey by exercising and cutting out fast food and soda from her diet — and has since shed an impressive 126 pounds!

“This journey has been one of the best accomplishments I have ever achieved — and it’s just getting started!” the Pine Grove, Calif. native said.

What was your life like before the weight loss?

My life was a complete mess. It was depressing, dreary and joyless — not to...

I was out on the DFW stocking website and noticed that they plan to stock New Melones next week. It would be my guess that they will put half in at Glory Hole and the rest at the launch ramp below the Highway 49 Bridge. They never tell you what day, but it would be my guess that if you went out Wednesday or Friday you might have a good chance of fish. I’ll probably hit the launch ramp on Wednesday.

We’re doing the “Design to Sell” thing at our house, so my fishing time is limited, but I try to get out at least once a week so I have...

Before she went off to college to become a California Golden Bear at the University of California, Kobie Pettis was an Argonaut Mustang. Graduating from Argonaut in 2014 she had an amazing career. She led her Argonaut High team to the Mother Lode League (MLL) Championship in 2011 and 2012, the school’s first league championships since 1998. Pettis was named the Most Inspirational Player and All-Second-Team as a junior in 2013 — the MLL most valuable player and Stockton Record’s Player of the Year in 2012.

Not to mention she was also...
