The Amador Polar Bears swim team hosted Carmichael last Saturday in the first official meet of the 2014 NorCal Swim League season.

The team did what one parent called “a fantastic job,” losing by only 27 points to a larger, powerful team from Carmichael.

The final total combined scores were: Polar Bears, 394; Carmichael, 421.

The scores for the Girls/Women were: Polar Bears, 217; Carmichael, 194.

The scores for the Boys/Men were: Polar Bears, 170; Carmichael, 227.

It was a hard-fought meet against a very talented Carmichael team, at the Detert Park Pool complex, in Jackson. It was the first conference meet of the season. There were many close finishes throughout the day and exciting relay performances for the second week in a row.

The Amador Polar Bears were tied at 210 with Carmichael going into the long Free, and felt pretty good about securing a win, but came up just a few points short.

The Polar Bears’ Girls/Women easily won their division with strong swimming at all age levels. The Polar Bears’ Boys/Men had their work cut out for them with a few swimmers not able to attend due to SAT testing that morning, the day after graduation, Sober Grad night and the last day of school. The team suffered a few more DQ’s than expected, and that helped Carmichael push on to victory.

The Polar Bears will compete tomorrow in Galt, against the Gators, at the Gora Aquatic Center. Check-in begins at 6:30 a.m., followed by swimming at 8 a.m. The address is 630 Chabolla Avenue, in Galt. For more information, call 744-9544.
