Camp Out for Cancer is right around the corner. This year, you’ll find the “Carnival for the Cure Under the Big Top,” on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6 and 7, at the Amador County Fairgrounds, in Plymouth.

The fun happens all day long, including a Fun Zone for kids of all ages, booths with crafts, raffles, bounce houses and a dunk tank. Commemorate victories at the Survivor Celebration, at 10 a.m.; get gobb-smacked at a Magic Show, featuring Geff Crawford, at 1 p.m.; get messy on the Fun Color Course and 5K Run, at 2 p.m.; and participate in the Illumination Ceremony, at 7:30 p.m.

Live music throughout the day features Herb Boxhorn, Electra Road, Wicked Sisters, Bruce Dixon and Mike Rolf.

Admission is free, and all proceeds — except for eight percent, which go toward cancer research — benefit Amador STARS, and remain in our community.

This year’s event is led by co-chairpersons Ginger Rolf and Donna Jackson, with the assistance of Nancy Swensen, Tammy Accinelli and Joanne Hazen. For more information, call Rolf, at 223-1246, or visit

As an added bonus, purchase raffle tickets for a weekend getaway, designed to help you enjoy next year’s Camp Out For Cancer event. The winning raffle ticket holder will attend “Summer Camp 2015” in a circa-1960s retro recreational vehicle, that will be delivered and set up for you at either Plasse’s Resort or Jackson Rancheria’s RV Park. Tickets are $10 each, or three for $25, and can be purchased at this year’s Camp Out For Cancer event, Under the Big Top:Carnival for the Cure.
