Mother Lode Harvest Open House

Mother Lode Harvest is having an Open House at Dark Horse Ranch, in Fiddletown, on Saturday, July 12, from 10 a.m. to 1p.m. This is a great opportunity to meet Dan and Sherry Fields, of Dark Horse Ranch, and learn about their natural animal-raising practices. The Fields are one of Mother Lode Harvest’s producer members who offer whole, local, grass-fed lambs. There will be other producer members on-hand to answer any questions you may have while you enjoy our savory local snacks. Dark Horse Ranch is located at 17470 Tyler Road, in Fiddletown. Library Closures

Effective July 8, 2014 the Amador County Library Branches, Pine Grove and Pioneer, will be temporarily closed.  The book drops will remain open and our upcountry patrons should continue using them. Any questions please contact the Main Library in Jackson at 223-6400.

Mother Lode Quilters Guild

Veterans’ Benefits Orientation

On Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 9 a.m. to noon, representatives from multiple agencies will present information on how veterans and their family members can succeed in using veterans’ benefits and resource programs, including employment assistance and opportunities, State and Federal VA Benefits, compensation, pension and claim service, vererans’ educational benefits, healthcare, Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise program, transition and physical wellness services and veteran-owned farming resources. State Retirees Quarterly Meeting

The California State Retirees will host its quarterly meeting on Tuesday, July 15, at 11:30 a.m., at Jackson Senior Center, located at 229 New York Ranch Road, in Jackson. Receive updated information of current issues affecting retired State employees statewide, including legislation affecting pensions and health plan enrollment.

Upcountry Community Council

Upcountry Community Council will host its regular monthly meeting on Monday, July 14, when the main focus will be on Upcountry Fire Issues. SIR Branch 15

SIR Branch 15 will hold its July luncheon meeting on July 17, at Our Lady of the Pines Church’s Harran Hall, in Pioneer. Social hour starts at 11 a.m., with lunch to follow at noon. The scheduled speaker is Judy Shally, of HICAP, who will be discussing Medicare. SIR is open to any retired man who is interested in activities such as golf, fishing, tours and travel and RVing. All SIR activities are organized by the membership. Those interested in socializing with old and new friends are also encouraged to join. Soroptimist International of Amador County has elected new officers for 2014-2015. Our president will be Beth Arnold, 1st vice-president is Pat Woodard, 2nd vice-president is Laura Carpender, recording secretary is Donna Miller, corresponding secretary is Deborah Witmer, treasurer is Angie Murchison, assistant treasurer is Linda Matulich and directors are Sharon Lundgren and Marie Lindsey.
