Holmes’ Hounds

This missive is to notify you of our Sherlockian Society’s next meeting at Baker Street West, on Tuesday, July 1, at 6 o’clock in the evening. Gather at 221B, where members will give a full explanation of their assumed identities, including personality, the stories in which they appeared, and intriguing, possible plot twists. If you enjoy a passionate pursuit of the world’s greatest detective, like to play games and play dress-up. If you enjoy a spirited exchange with imaginative people, you will enjoy Holmes’ Hounds. Sons In Retirement #96

The next meeting of SIRs Branch 96 will be held on July 3, with a planned program of choral music by local singers. SIRs has monthly meetings on the first Thursday of the month for active retired men. The group has no dues and only exists to encourage and support activities for the members. Meeting at the St. Sava Conference Center, SIRs members enjoy a very nice lunch and a program of interest by local community members. Quilters Guild

The Mother Lode Quilters Guild will meet on Monday, June 23, at the Sutter Creek United Methodist Church, at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call Carla, at 267-9261.

Motherlode Madness

American Legion Riders Chapter 108 are taking the 6th Annual Poker Run, on Saturday, June 14, at 9 a.m., meeting from the American Legion Hall Post 108, on the corner of Highway 49 and Airport Road at 9 a.m. for donuts, coffee and registration. Cost is $20 per person, or $30 per couple (on the same bike). Includes a run pin for the first 200 riders. Group leaves promptly at 11 a.m. The day will include raffle prizes, 50/50 and a full lunch. SIRs

The scheduled speaker for our June luncheon will be Melissa Rasmussen, from American River Bank. She will present a slide show from her African Safari. SIR is open to any retired man who is interested in activities such as golf, fishing, tours, travel and RVing. All SIR activities are organized by the membership. Libations & Conversations

AAUW Amador’s Libations & Conversations group meets Tuesday, June 17, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., on the rear patio at the Imperial Hotel, Amador City, to discuss, “The Media Gender Gap and Thoughts on Resiliency.” Members and interested women are invited to join us for lively conversation over no-host drinks. Master Gardeners

Balancing Fire Hazard Reduction and Sensitive Resources in Suburban Forests and Open Space Roseville, June 27, 2014. University of California Cooperative Extension Center for Forestry will co-sponsor a workshop on reviewing, planning and implementing fuel treatments in suburban parks and open spaces. Workshop objectives: treatments to reduce fuel loads in suburban parks and open space can create concerns about their potential ecological and environmental impacts.
