Dorothy Mae Edwards, of Pioneer, Calif., passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the age of 91. She was born in Ringgold, La., on March 5, 1923 to the late Johnnie and Nona (Williett) Harper. Dorothy was raised on the family farm in Ringgold. Her father moved west during the war looking for work. He was able to find employment in the shipyards and his family soon followed him. Dorothy worked at the Army Supply Depot, in Oakland, as one of the first computer operators during WWII. While attending First Baptist of Richmond, she met her future husband, David Edwards. A romance soon blossomed and the couple was married March 18, 1945 in their home church. David introduced his younger brother, Walter, to Dorothy's sister, Bobbie, and they followed in matrimony in 1950. The two couples lived close and their children grew up together, between Richmond and Pleasant Hill. She was always quick to laugh, believed in the "silver lining," finding the bright side in every situation. Dorothy loved jokes and was thought to be the greatest mom ever by her children. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 69 years, David Edwards; daughter, Anita Edwards, of Pioneer; son, Ralph Edwards, of Pioneer; sister, Bobbie June Edwards, of Monroe, Ga.; grandchild, John David Douglas; great-grandchild, Margaret N. Douglas; nephews, Billy Rex Harper, Jr., Dr. Robert Eugene Harper, Kenneth Wayne Edwards; and niece, Carol Lynn Cradduck. She was preceded in death by daughter and Cynthia Ann Douglas; brothers, John Francis Harper, Jr., and Billy Rex Harper, Sr. At her request, there will be no services. Interment will be in the Amador Memorial Cemetery, in Pioneer. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting danerimortuary.com and signing the guest book.
