Forrest “Joe” Joseph Malaspino, 60, passed away July 1, 2014 of multiple organ failure. He would have been 61 on July 17. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, in Jackson.

He was born to the late John “Jack” Malaspino and Marguerite “Margie” (Reynoso) Malaspino, both of whom were born and raised in Jackson, Calif. Joe was a 5th-generation Amador/Calaveras County native whose paternal ancestors include: Betase (Bettassa), Giuffra, Lagomarsino, Delplanque and Marhefka. His maternal ancestors include: Escamilla, Valles, Munoz and Navarette. He is an alumnus of the Jackson High School class of 1972. Coincidentally, Joe was named for a beloved uncle and respected member of Amador County and Italian Benevolent Society lifelong member, Forrest Julius Malaspino (1902-1980), who was also a lifelong bachelor and childless.

Joe is survived by his girlfriend of 26 years, Lylette Petty, for whom Joe was a surrogate father to her daughter, April. He is also survived by his mother Margie Malaspino, older brother Johnny Malaspino III, and sisters Candy Collins (Malaspino) and Carol Brown (Malaspino). He leaves behind nieces Erica Malaspino (son WrenCarlo), Brandy (Brown) Maugeri (daughter Daisy), Andrea (Malaspino) Wheeler (sons Dakota, Dylan, D’Angelo and Diego), Tamsyn and nephews Justin Brown and John Malaspino IV, as well as his surrogate grandchildren “Little” Joe, Shereen and Cassie.

Joe will always be remembered by those who knew and loved him well for his sense of humor, generosity and how much he loved his pets. In his younger years, Joe was infamous in Amador County for his “Mud Shark” brown-primered panel delivery van, by which he gave us all fond memories to laugh over forever.

Joe was cremated as per his wishes and friends and family will be celebrating his life at his favorite camp spot at Bear River on his birthday.

I love you and miss you very much Uncle, “The Godfather,” Joe. Love, your niece and goddaughter, Erica.
