Harry M. Rowe, Jr., passed away Friday, May 23, after complications resulting from a stroke. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Lou Rowe, and four children from his former marriage to June Rowe. There are 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Harry was born and raised in Vallejo, California and attended the University of California, Berkeley, until World War II caused him to join the Army in 1943. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant serving the last part of his tour of duty in the Pacific Theater. Upon honorable discharge he completed his course work at the University leaving with a 5th year degree in Librarianship. His professional career reflected progressive leadership in the Library field including his final job before retirement, at the Orange County Library system as County Librarian. Harry was very active in Kiwanis, with 55 years of perfect attendance, and served in many capacities, including Governor of the Cal-Nev-Ha district. He was a Master Mason, affiliated with the Volcano, CA, Lodge. He and his wife, Mary Lou, lived in Pioneer in the Sierras for 20 years before moving to Hemet in 1999.

Memorial services, celebration Harry’s life, will be Friday, June 20, 2014 at 10:00, Hemet Valley Mortuary, 403 N. San Jacinto St. Hemet, CA. There will be a private internment at the Riverside National Cemetery. No flowers, but contributions in Harry’s memory may be made to the Kiwanis Family House, 2875 50th St., Sacramento, CA 95817 or www.kawanisfamilyhouse.org
