In May of this year, the Club sponsored a highly successful car and vintage aircraft show at Eagle’s Nest Airport, in Ione. Proceeds from the event were designated for the Interfaith Food Bank, local youth, and other community nonprofit organizations. As a result, the Rotary Club of Ione presented the Amador County Interfaith Food Bank a check for $5,000.

The donation to the food bank  comes at a time of the year when funding is most needed. During the year-end holiday season, the organization does receive generous donations from businesses, clubs and individuals. To cover the balance of the year, the food bank schedules fundraising events to generate funding for mid-year needs.

Executive Director Tom Thompson stated, “This $5,000 donation will help fund food supplies over the next few months. It comes at a time of the year when the need is great.” The Rotary Club of Ione, along with many other generous organizations and individuals, has continued over the years to support the efforts of the food bank.

The Interfaith Food Bank is able to stretch funding through its ability to purchase in bulk.

With 15 satellite locations distributing food throughout the county,  the food bank was able to serve 2,637  families last year. This is close to 18 percent of the population.
