Kenneth (Ken) Dean Hughes was born on September 3, 1938, in Monahans, Texas to John and Willie Maud Clements Hughes. Ken passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Burl Hughes. He is survived by Marian Oldham Hughes, his loving wife for 37 years, his son Michael Scott Bullard, daughter-in-law Barbara, granddaughter Kim Bullard, sisters Linda Giles and Sharon Grim, and brother Jim Hughes.

Ken served 4 years in the Air Force. He was an avid fisherman who also enjoyed weekly hiking excursions into the high altitudes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains during his 18 years in Amador County. Ken once took two nephews, ages 13 and 11, on a week-long backpacking trip to introduce them to the joys of the mountains. He also enjoyed sailing and once owned a sailboat, which he sailed on Lake Havasu in Arizona. Ken was also a member of Ducks Unlimited while residing in Mendocino County in northern California. He served as a Boy Scout scoutmaster while living in Independence, California.

Ken was employed for 24 years by Continental Telephone Company, which later became GTE. Most recently, he was a docent at the Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park in Amador County.

Graveside services will be held at Sunset View Cemetery on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. with reception following at Pioneer Resort Motel in Pioneer, California.
