After reading Ray Perry’s letter to the editor about several groups taking their golf tournaments out of this county, I thought back and realized how many times a week I hear the word “local.” It’s almost in all advertising in this county. It is on the radio, the local TV station, certainly the newspaper in many different advertising and fundraiser articles and just in general. This is a tight-knit community and a very giving one. Why would a group that asks for donations on a regular basis take business out of the county? Are these other venues donating huge amounts of money? Are they buying loads of goods for this county? Are they playing in these golf tournaments?

Now, I am not a golfer, but I do donate to most causes. The two courses we have in this county must need our local business, so why go somewhere else? And I am sure these courses donated in the past.

These people making decisions to go out of the county will have to fight for my donation from now on. I will donate to any local cause, but taking money out of the hands of the people that donate to their causes seems wrong. Mr. Perry was correct. They should be ashamed and embarrassed and have some explaining to do.

Wanda, I agree! As a member of the Up Country 88 Lions, I can tell you you we raise our money in Amador, spend it on those in need in Amador, and support the businesses that help us in Amador . There is NO reason to hold a fund raiser in another county!
