Marjorie Marie Burk passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014, at the Kit Carson Nursing Home, in Jackson, California, at the age of 80 years. She was born August 11, 1933 to the late Robert and Ora (Curtis) Johnson in Merced, California. Marjorie was married to the late Alva Eugene Burk. In Jackson, Marjorie and her husband used to own the Phillips 66 service station and she was a beautician. Her love of Jackson brought her back to the area for her last seven years. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Alan & Dana Burk, Martha & Don Goodfellow and Rosie & Rod Schmidt; plus, she has eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Marjorie is remembered for being very active. She loved the Highway 88 area. In earlier years, she spent time in the mountains fishing, camping, hiking and snow skiing. Some might remember her as their Girl Scout leader, or a friend that deep-sea fished, in a group called “The Deep Sea Dames.” Traveling took her many places, including trips to China and England plus, helping bring back a fishing boat through the Panama Canal to Oregon, and traveling thru all but a few of the fifty states.

An inspiration. Dealing with Parkinson’s slowed her down, but she never let it take over her life and spirit. Friends and family frequently commented on how she was an inspiration and how positive she was and a pleasure to be around. She easily made friends. She continued painting. She was referred to as “the artist or the lady that paints” at Kit Carson. Sharing her skills, she encouraged and helped others too.

A “Life Celebration” will be held July 10, at Mel & Faye’s Diner, 4:00 – 6:00 P.M.
