The Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians announced yesterday the results of a special election to fill the seat vacated by the passing of longtime Chairperson Margaret Dalton.

As set forth in the tribe's election ordinance, a committee of tribal members conducted the election at a 6 p.m. gathering of the tribe's General Council Thursday.

Longtime Tribal Vice Chairman Irvin "Bo" Marks was elected tribal chairperson, a position his sister Margaret held, uncontested, for 30 years.

The tribe also elected Adam Dalton tribal vice chairman, and Dennis Dalton to a tribal council member at large seat.

The Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians was first recognized by the federal government in 1898, and in 2010 will celebrate their gaming operation's 25th anniversary.
