The American Legion Riders are reviving a longstanding tradition in Amador County that they feel never should have gone away.
On Wednesday, Nov. 11, the riders and the city of Jackson will host the first Amador County Veterans Parade in 20 years. For decades, the veterans parade was an anticipated event that drew people from all over the area to pay their respect to the brave local men and women who have served the United States. Although the parade disappeared in the early 1980s, the American Legion Riders are now hosting its return on Jackson's Main Street.
Staging will be at 9 a.m. and the parade will start at 10 a.m.
Congressman Dan Lungren will visit the American Legion Hall in Sutter Creek later at 2 p.m. for a Veterans Day barbecue that pays tribute to American Legion Post 108. Attendees to the barbecue are asked to donate a non-perishable food item to the Interfaith Food Bank.
