The snowfall in Amador County has caused numerous traffic hazards and is keeping children home from school today.

The Amador County Sheriff's Office is reporting that chains are required on all vehicles except four wheel drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels 6 miles east of Jackson on Highway 49/88. Highway 88 is closed to eastbound traffic at Dalton Road. Downed trees caused officials to close West Clinton Road half a mile from Highway 88. Trees were also to blame for the closure of Quartz Mountain between Fiddletown and New Chicago Road.

The Amador County Sheriff's Office reported spin-outs on Hamricks and Ridge roads. Amador County Public Works closed the road at Hamricks Grade but it has since reopened. The Sutter Creek Police Department spent the early hours of the morning clearing a minor bus accident, which lead to multiple car spin-outs. No injuries were reported. The route is currently open.

There are numerous outages throughout the area, according to Pacific Gas & Electric Co. In Amador County, there are 42 outages affecting more than 5,000 customers. The estimated time of restoration is not available at this time.

All schools in the Amador County Unified School District are closed today.

Emergency responders have spent the morning clearing fallen trees from roadways and various highways. At 7 a.m., the Jackson City Fire Department responded to a home on Perry Road after a live power line came down on the rooftop of a house. No one was injured. Emergency responders have also been dispatched to down power line, or "live wire," that is reportedly "arching in the snow" on Emigrant Trail in Mace Meadow.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the Mother Lode in effect until 6 p.m. today. The NWS is forecasting snow showers will likely continue today in Jackson, mainly before 4 p.m. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. There is a 30 percent chance of snow showers before 10 tonight with widespread frost after 4 a.m. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

According to Kirkwood Mountain Resort's Web site, there has been 28 to 40 inches of snowfall.

Authorities are asking that the public not call 911 or emergency services for simple weather updates.
