Amador-Tuolumne Community Action Agency offers free assistance with income tax preparation
By News release
The Amador-Tuolumne Community Action Agency announced that there is additional tax assistance through its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program for low-income residents.
A-TCAA provides this service in partnership with the IRS, with certified and trained volunteers. Similar free tax filing assistance is offered through the Amador Senior Center in Jackson.
Low income families (under $49,000 filing jointly) are not required to file a return, but could benefit substantially from tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, which can return $457 to $5,600, depending on family size. On top of this, numerous credits are also available which can increase a client's return even more.
"In today's economic climate, finding ways to pay the bills and feed a family is becoming increasingly difficult, so we are anxious to get tax refunds into the pockets of Amador county residents" said Sam Britton, one of A-TCAA's two VITA site coordinators. "Every dollar counts, so it is great to be able to offer a free service such as the one we have developed."
A-TCAA's VITA volunteers hope that low income families in Amador County will be able to secure these funds due to them with this assistance.
