Phil (Randy) Clower, age 65, of Sutter Creek, Calif., got his wish to die in his own home. He passed comfortably, in peace and without pain, thanks to Hospice of Amador.

Phil was born in Rainelle, West Virginia and is survived by his cousin, Ken Pitsenbarger, and Ken's husband, Larry Shaw, of Sutter Creek.

Phil had a B.A. degree from Marshall University, in Huntington, W.V. He was in the Army, spent three years in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1972.

He retired in 2007, after 35 years as a Federal Investigator for the E.E.O.C, and moved to Sutter Creek. He loved life in Sutter Creek. He had a charming cottage on the creek and enjoyed working in his garden. It made him so proud when people would walk by and acknowledge how beautiful his home and garden looked.

Those who knew Phil (Randy) said these things to describe him: "a gentle soul;" "he was loved;" "my best friend;" " a sweet man;" "always so kind;" " his home so welcoming and comfortable;" and "a beautiful garden."

In honoring Phil's wishes, he has been cremated. His ashes will be scattered in Tuolumne Meadows, in Yosemite National Park, the same area where Phil scattered the ashes of his longtime companion, Dan Hall.
