Stations of the Cross

Lenten Schedule

The Catholic Churches of Amador County invite you to join us in prayer and fellowship during the Lenten Season. Each Friday, reflect on the mystery of Jesus’ gift of himself to us by praying the Stations of the Cross. Most churches also have a free Soup Supper along with the Stations. Schedule: St. Bernard, in Volcano, 5 p.m.; St. Mary of the Mountains, in Plymouth, 5:30 p.m., with Soup Supper following; Our Lady of the Pines, in Buckhorn, 5:30 p.m., with Soup Supper following (except March 14 and 28); St. Katharine Drexel, in Martell, 6 p.m., Soup Supper happens first, followed by Stations; and Sacred Heart, in Ione, at 7 p.m., with Mass following.

Sophia’s Well of Wisdom

Rev. Tracy Johnson leads the Spring Equinox Celebration this Sunday, March 23, starting at 10 a.m., and Shari Anderson shares her musical gifts. Weekly Sunday Meditation and Wisdom Circle meets at 10 a.m., and 11 a.m., respectively. The 2014 theme is, “Journey Into Oneness.” Qigong meets Sunday, at 5 p.m. Women Writers meets Monday, at 6 p.m. A Course in Miracles meets Tuesday, at 7 p.m. Wednesday Night Movie, on March 26, “The Light of Sion,” by investigative anthropologist William Henry. The Healing Word

The Healing Word is hosting a Marriage Seminar on April 4, from 6 to 8 p.m., and April 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a soup and salad lunch. There is no admission fee, and the event is open to all. There will be a Men’s Breakfast on Saturday, March 15, from 9 to 11 a.m., and a Women’s Breakfast on Saturday, March 22, from 9 to 11 a.m. Food and clothing are available for whosoever, every Thursday and Friday, between 1 and 3 p.m. Sunday service is at 10:30 a.m., with a lunch social after. Newcomers and visitors are welcome at our Bible Study groups: Mondays Men’s, at 7 p.m.; Wednesday Women’s, at 1 p.m.; and Family, Wednesday evenings, at 6 p.m. Pastor Mary Ann Barcklay’s office hours are Wednesday through Friday, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. The church office can be reached at 295-8699, and healing@volcano.net. The Healing Word is a Foursquare Gospel Church, located at 26675 Tiger Creek Road, at Highway 88. We close on snow days due to ice in the parking lot.

Ione Community

United Methodist Church

Sunday worship services are at 9 a.m., with either Pastor Tim Gravatt or Pastor Tom Widlund giving the message. Coffee and pastries follow in the Social Hall. Captivated by Prayer group meets at 6 p.m., on Mondays, for a video presentation and discussion on the Holy Spirit. Adult Bible Study is on Tuesdays, at 6 p.m. L.E.A.P. after-school program for students in 4th through 8th grade meets every Wednesday, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Senior Meals are served at 11:30 a.m., on Thursdays. Jackson United

Methodist Church

“Grace - The Story’s Hero,” will be the sermon when Jackson United Methodist and Sutter Creek United Methodist gather in Jackson on Sunday, March 23. services begin at 11 a.m., and Pastor Tom Widlund will preside. The Jackson church is at 120 Church Street, between the old courthouse and Jackson Elementary School. Fellowship will follow in Celebration Hall. Wednesday, the Jackson United Methodist Women will meet at 1:30 p.m., in the Daffodil Room. Stating Point Bible Study will follow at 3:33 p.m. Saturday, “Break Bread with Friends” is 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., in Celebration Hall. The free program is open to the hungry. Trinity Episcopal Church

Our Lenten study program continues this Wednesday with a soup supper and bread, at 6 p.m. The study program, by Pastor Karen, follows immediately after the supper, and ends at 8 p.m. While this is a series, each evening stands alone, so come to one or come to all. No reservation needed and no cost. Whoever you are, wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome here. Passover Dinner & Seder

The Mother Lode Jewish Community will be holding this year’s annual Passover Dinner and Seder in Murphys, on Saturday, April 19. Passover, which celebrates freedom from slavery in ancient Egypt, is one of the most important holidays in the Jewish religion. Everyone is welcome. The cost is only $20 per adult, $15 per child for MLJC members, and $25 per adult, $20 per child for non-members; there is no charge for children under 6. River Pines Bible Church

The Family Service begins at 10 a.m. Following Pastor David Kaufman’s message, special music, “God of the Mountain,” will be performed by the worship team of Dennis Paddock and Elena Kaufman. Refreshments and fellowship are enjoyed after the service. All are welcome. The church is located in River Pines on Shenandoah Road and Emigrant Trail.
