After reading the article about The Arc of Amador and Calaveras, I thought readers should hear another side of the story. Before I retired in August, 2012, I worked at The Arc for over eight years. I enjoyed coming to work every day. It was a pleasure to be part of a wonderful, caring organization whose mission was to give direction, care and purpose to the lives of people with developmental disabilities.

Under the direction of Executive Director Mike Sweeney, the staff and administration were working towards the same goal and it was a team who worked well together and enjoyed each other’s company. Mike was director for 20 years and I heard only positive feedback from staff and community for him and The Arc. Is it a coincidence that shortly after he retired two years ago that there are so many accusations from the new director that she caused animosity among the staff and it has become a difficult place to work and continue the mission of The Arc?

These facts speak volumes. I must say the staff through this stressful time has always had the consumers’ care and welfare first and foremost. Hopefully, The Arc will once again become the happy place of dedication and teamwork it once was two years ago.
