It is obvious in Ron Watson's letter (November 13) that he is parroting the same rantings expressed by such neoconservative ideologues as Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. Watson uses terms such as "communist" and "socialist" to describe members of the Obama Administration. Really? Certainly no one could accuse Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner, Chief Economic Advisor Lawrence Summers, or lobbyist Mark Patterson, all of whom had ties to the banking industry, of trying to "eliminate capitalism." If anything, our current financial situation is a good example of capitalism run amok as deregulation led to greedy Wall Street executives gaining trillions of dollars in short-term investments while a large percentage of Americans lost their savings, jobs and homes.
Watson's mindless rhetoric is divisive and serves no purpose but to keep us from solving real problems that face Americans today, such as health care, unemployment and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He would do better to study the issues in order to contribute in a more objective way rather than stick out his tongue and call names, especially when those accusations are based on blatant partisanship rather than facts.
