Hurricane Cheer Team plans sign-ups, adds age 2-4 and 5-9 recreation cheer squads The Amador County Hurricane All Star Cheerleading Team competed Feb. 3 at University of California, Davis, finishing with a first place and a second place in the competition.
"The team is doing so well and I am proud of their success," said Julie Cardinale of Hurricane Cheer.
The AC Hurricane Cheer Team competed at the United Spirit Associations Spirit Championship at the University of California at Davis. Amador County's newest all star cheer team took the floor and performed their 2-minute, 30-second routine "to the sound of a roaring crowd," Cardinale said.
The AC Hurricane has spent months preparing and training for the season, she said.
"It was obvious from their performance that all of their hard work had definitely paid off," she said. Competitors from other cheer teams have learned the Hurricane's cheer and began to cheer them on. The team responded to the crowd by delivering an award winning performance.
The AC Hurricane was awarded first place for their performance and won second place for the Top Score Award, which includes all of the all star teams performing at this competition.
"Following the awards ceremony and pictures of the team proudly holding their trophy, the team said their tearful farewells to Coach Desiree Coleman, who left late Monday evening for Navy boot camp in Illinois," Cardinale said.
The team and coaches said they were so thankful for her participation in the program and the team vowed to work even harder in her absence to make her as proud of the team as they are of her.
The Hurricane Cheer Team and coaches would like to thank all of the parents for their commitment to this program, she said.
"We would to thank the Amador Ledger Dispatch and the community for their abundant support," she said.
She also announced the upcoming sign-up day for the 2008-09 Hurricane Cheer Team. In addition to the current gymnastic and kinder-gym programs, the Hurricane also has two new non-competitive cheerleading programs for ages 2 to 4 and 5 to 9.
Hurricane will be having sign-ups for all of the programs 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 1 at Handsprings Gymnastics, 13200 Jackson Gate Road, Jackson. For information, call Handsprings Gymnastics at 223-0689 or Julie Cardinale at 969-2143.
